Georgetown Brew Pub Crawl

July 8, 2023 @ 10:30 am 11:59 pm

Here’s a tentative itinerary for a WSB summer 2023 Seattle brewery crawl on July 8, including a great mix of newer breweries and older ones.  There are some rather unique breweries and beers available on this tour.  Some places specialize in barrel aging and sours (Sovereign), one in the best dessert and hazy beers (Great Notion), and others with a great mix of beer styles (Georgetown, Jellyfish, Elysian).

11:35 from Bainbridge, 11:10 from Bremerton, so most folks can get to Seattle just after noon.  We can rendezvous at Georgetown Brewing, at Colman Dock or somewhere in Pioneer Square, or at an eatery in the International District.  I don’t suppose most of us have been to the Georgetown brewery district, and that will take up most of our tour, maybe all of it for those who don’t want to do the full marathon.  Once back from Georgetown to downtown or the ID it’s a quick walk to Sovereign Brewing or a quick bus ride on the #7.  There are various other quick loops to other breweries for those with serious endurance and iron livers, or great drinking discipline.  We’ll check each stop for pitchers, taster sets or other best ways to try many of their beers.  Anybody have a marked/measured quart jug they have pour pints into, then we pour from that to our glasses?

Here are cell numbers you can call on Saturday to facilitate a rendezvous with the brewery tourists.

From the ferry we can walk up Marion or Cherry/Jefferson to 3rd Ave. and catch any number of buses that will take us to Georgetown, or the Int’l. District.  Every 30 minutes Metro #124 goes from 3rd Ave then runs down Airport Way South, past Elysian and Full Throttle Bottles (beer shop with 12 taps), and it looks like there’s a stop near Lucile St. (adjacent to Elysian) then maybe walk W/NW to Georgetown BC for first rendezvous opportunity.  The main Georgetown stop for the #124 is at 13th Ave S & S Bailey St, just across from Great Notion.  Alternately, every 15 minutes routes #131/132 go from 3rd Avenue and run down 4th Avenue South to a few blocks west of Georgetown Brewing (get off at Dawson or Lucile and walk east).  From the east end of the ID catch the Metro #60, which leaves 12th&Jackson every 20 minutes heading to Georgetown.  5-6 breweries, some distilleries, wineries, bottle shops and pubs are a short walking distance from wherever in Georgetown that we’d want to get off and reboard the bus.

Sovereign Brewing doesn’t open ’til 3 or we’d likely start there.  It’s a brisk walk down Rainier Ave (south of Dearborn) from the ID and where the #60 runs.

We could just carry cash for two bus rides ($2.75 X 2) for the basic tour.  If you have the official card for sernior discounts it would be just $1 per ride.  If we have ORCA cards they can be used for the WSB pub crawl too, or sold/rented/loaned to someone who wants to join the WSB tours.  The card is good indefinitely so don’t lose it.  You can load a day pass on your ORCA card for $8, but that doesn’t seem necessary for the basic brewery tour.

We can get to Georgetown by early afternoon and start touring.  There are loads of eateries in Georgetown where we can stop (many directly on our walking route), or they can deliver to any of these breweries.

The breweries make up a natural loop starting either at Great Notion or Jellyfish Brewing.
